Raven's Wing Student Troupe
Some of our dancers have decided they wish to perform - so we are! We are starting out in small venues, dancing a style on the fusion-folkoric side of the belly dance spectrum. No one who attends class is required to perform - but anyone who wants to is invited to! We have dancers from age 6 up.
Performance in
Bryson City, NC
We're a friendly dance troupe, most often performing covered head to toe in folkloric-style costuming. The music for our first performance in town was the Irish Band, Kila, and the lyrics were in Irish Gaelic! (That's what happens when a couple of women of Celtic heritage start a Belly Dance Troupe...)
Part of what we're about is dispelling the myth that bellydance is always glitzy and sexualized. The truth is it's folk dancing done by women and families, and sometimes even men, to celebrate special occasions and life in general. It is practiced in several cultures in several forms and we blend bits of many into our performances.
